This paddle only comes in a 4.0" grip with a weight range of 7.4 to 8.0 ounces, it is true that paddles with a weight range and different grip sizes can have different weights due to the grip difference. In the case of a paddle like this the weight variation comes from the manufacturing process of the carbon fiber surface and polymer core. It isn't always a consistent weight from each cut of the materials which causes a variation and therefore a weight range. Some materials are more consistent than others which can then result in a more exact weight for each paddle manufactured. Due to the lack of control in the exact outcome of the weight during manufacturing some manufactures with standard weight, mid weight and light weight paddles actually manufacture them all in one batch then weight each one after and sort them into the weights without any fore-knowledge of what the batch outcome will result in as far as paddle weights.
