The paddles are very similar and have the same overall surface area and weight but here are the pros and cons of the shapes. The Ovation is also slightly less head heavy than the Pro (when you hold the paddle the weight of the Ovation feels lower in the handle area).
Ovation Pros:
Ovation Pros:
- It is the more aerodynamic shape so it cuts through the air faster when at the net
- The shape allows for a quicker rotation of the paddle due to no corners at the top of the paddle
- The rounded shape results in a slightly bigger sweet spot around the center
- The rounded shape at the top of the paddle has less area on the sides when you are reaching for a ball or popping one close to your feet
- Larger area at the top of the paddle for when you are reaching for the short ball in front of you (if you hit it in the top center often when reaching this is a minimal advantage over the ovation)
- Not as aerodynamic as the Ovation so has a slower reaction time at the net on fast shots
