I don’t use a glove so was wondering if rubber grips would be a good idea?

Yes rubber grips are best when used with a glove. You can use them without a glove but the grip you get with a rubber grip and leather glove is even better than a bare hand on a regular grip. The other advantage of a rubber grip is it will probably last the life of your paddle while a wrap grip will have to be replaced many times.
