Yes a lighter weight racquet tends to allow the player to move it faster at the front court for faster reflexes at the kitchen line. A light paddle also requires a faster swing speed to generate the same amount of power as a heavier paddle with a slower swing speed (Force = Mass * Acceleration). For more advanced players small weight difference can matter but for the average player small differences of .1-.2 ounces arent a big difference.
