Will the rubber grip work as effectively as a regular grip if I don’t use a glove?

No these rubber grips will be too slick without a glove. However the grip you get with a rubber grip and glove will be much better than your bare hand on a regular grip. The rubber grip will also wear much slower than a regular grip that requires constant replacement or overgrips.
