If you are looking for more control a thicker core (16 mm) paddle would probably be a better fit. The Selkirk power air series paddles have a 13mm core that is more for power. You can try our Pickleball Paddle Demo Program ($25 for 2 paddles to test for a week - the $25 is to cover cost of shipping the paddles back and forth). If you want to go with Selkirk we would suggest trying the Vanguard Epic 2.0 paddle it has a 16 mm core or the CRBN 2x paddle with a good surface for spin and a 14mm or 16mm core.
