Any advantage to a thin paddle or an edgeless paddle?

Thinner core pickleball paddles like a 13mm core paddle are for power while a thicker 16mm core are for more control. The advantage of edgeless paddles it that if you hit it close to the edge the there is no edge guard to deflect the ball in the wrong direction. Paddles with edge guards do offer some protection against paddle damage with repeated scrapping of the ground.
