The Pursuit skin is a proprietary Graphite skin developed specifically by Engage for this paddle to work with their 'black' core developed to be the softest core in the market. The rough texture is the actual skin (not an overlay texture commonly used in the industry) therefore the texture lasts. I am a 3.5 Pickleball player, former lifetime tennis player, 69 y/o male. I have been hitting for 8 months with the Engage poach icon. This newer paddle feels generally very similar to the poach icon with improvements in control, ball feel, and sound (thicker core so a more muffled sound). Capacity for generating spin is as good or better than the poach icon. Similar balance and swing weight in the standard weight. For me it definitely is an upgrade over the older paddle which was pretty good to begin with. I am getting more and more experience with Pickleball (about a year now) and appreciate the improved feel and control of the new paddle. I used the demo program to audition this paddle before buying it.
