Upgrading to a rubber grip is a preference choice. If you come from tennis you will probably prefer the grip that comes with the paddles. If you come from a sport like racquetball you are probably use to a rubber grip with a leather glove (best possible adhesion to hand/paddle). A rubber grip will last the life of the paddle while the manufacturer grip that comes with the paddle will wear out and require replacement. It is a good idea to use an overwrap grip over the grip to protect it from wear, the overwraps are easily removed and replaced in a minute or so when they wear out vs having to replace the whole grip. The main grip is much thicker with a cushion on the back side while an overwrap is very thin and is used to protect the main grip or to enlarge th3e grip size. 1 wrap of an overgrip increases the grip size by about 1/16"
